Active Citizenship

Tufts University has a strong heritage of educating people to be committed public citizens and leaders by infusing them with the ethic of civic and social responsibility. On the forefront of this effort is the Jonathan M. Tisch College of Citizenship and Public Service. Tisch College plays a critical role by actively encouraging development of this ethic among its students, faculty, and staff in myriad ways across all the Tufts campuses.

Tisch College helps ensure that students graduate from Tufts prepared to be committed public citizens and leaders, ready to actively participate in building stronger communities and societies. Tisch College does this by identifying and supporting Tufts students, faculty, staff and alumni, and community partners who develop creative, effective approaches to active citizenship at Tufts, in Tufts host communities, and in communities around the world.

We invite you to explore the many forms ‘active citizenship’ takes at Tufts. Contact us to learn how your organization can join us.

Active Citizenship

"Institutions of higher education should motivate students to become active, engaged and effective citizens in the communities they will inhabit.  This is Tufts' role -- not just to convey knowledge, but to convey values that encourage our students to get involed and not sit on the sidelines."

Lawrence S. Bacow
