Tufts University was founded in 1852. The School of Arts and Sciences, located on the Medford/Somerville campus, is the largest of the seven schools that comprise Tufts University, enrolling approximately 4,600 undergraduate students and 1,000 graduate students per year.
As we prepare our students for realities we can hardly imagine, we believe more strongly in the power of a liberal arts education to create disciplined, adaptable, imaginative thinkers ready to lead. Did you know that at Tufts University:
- 40 percent of undergraduates study abroad, placing Tufts among the top five research universities
- Our students join the Peace Corps. at one of the highest rates of any American university
- Current undergraduates hail from all 50 states, Guam, Puerto Rico and more than 65 countries; all our students provide a living, breathing, global education for each other
In order to teach tomorrow’s future leaders, Tufts seeks and retains a faculty that reflects and support the diversity of both its students and the world for which it is preparing the students. We believe that a university functions best when all members learn from one another’s background and experience. Our faculty boasts more than 10 Fulbright Fellows, 2 National Endowment for the Humanities Residents, 8 Ford Foundation Fellows and 6 Guggenheim Fellows among many other distinguished awards.
As a "Research University/Very High Research Activity (RU/VH)," Tufts presents numerous opportunities for investment and collaboration with companies and foundations. Among them are: fellowships, sponsored research, recruitment, and internships.
