Established in 1933, the Fletcher School is the oldest exclusively graduate school of international affairs in the United States, and nurtures a diverse and accomplished community of students and alumni from around the world. The School’s primary goal is to educate a select group of graduate students committed to maintaining the stability and prosperity of a complex, challenging, and increasingly global society. Fletcher’s interdisciplinary curriculum enables students to tailor courses to their own goals. Its internationally respected professors advise world leaders and policy makers, write for scholarly and popular publications, and are devoted to interactive classroom instruction and student mentoring.
Fletcher’s mission is to:
- Educate professionals from around the world and to prepare them for positions of leadership and influence in the national and international arenas;

Employers may note that the School is in the seventh year of the Global Master of Arts Program , an innovative mid-career program that uses twenty first-century technology to extend Fletcher’s teaching mission around the world. Through residencies and internet-mediated instruction, GMAP enables high-achieving professionals world-wide to obtain a master’s degree in one year, while remaining in their jobs. Fletcher enrolls approximately 400 students per year, more than 40 percent of whom come from outside the U.S., representing more than 75 countries. Students enter Fletcher from a wide range of professional and academic backgrounds and pursue international careers in the private sector, diplomatic and public service, and international and non-governmental organizations. Fletcher graduates shape international affairs and make meaningful contributions to the world as innovative leaders and problem-solvers in business, government, and non-governmental organizations worldwide.
