The Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy is in a class by itself. Established in 1981, it is the only self-governing graduate and professional school of nutrition in North America. Our mission is ambitious and increasingly urgent: to passionately advance the nutritional well-being for people worldwide through excellence in research and teaching, and the shaping of public policy.

We achieve this broad mandate by bringing together experts from the areas of clinical nutrition, social and public policy, and biomedicine. Our faculty includes anthropologists, biomedical scientists, economists, epidemiologists, nutritionists, biostatiticians, physicians, political scientists, and psychologists.

At the Friedman School, science lives in service to our world. We continue to seek new collaborations with industry and other public and non-profit partners to address the complexity of nutrition in our modern world.

  • The Feinstein Ineternational Center seeks to improve the lives and livelihoods of communities caught up in complex emergencies, war , and other crises. The center works in the fields of famine relief, nutrition, disease, human security, institutional change, and animal husbandry
  • The John Hancock Center for Physical Activity and Nutrition (JHCPAN) strives to improve the health of populations, from children to the elderly, by developing sound exercise and nutrition programs that promote positive and sustainable behavior change and influence public policy, both nationally and internationally. One of the main priorities is to lessen the epidemic of obesity, especially in children
  • The Francis Stern Nutrition Center has been granting master’s degrees in dietetics as well as training Registered Dieticians through a dietetic internship program accredited by the American Dietetic Association
  • The Center of Agricultural Food & Environment offers education and community outreach programs in the areas of sustainable agriculture practices, environmental policy, food systems, and consumer behavior related to food and the environment
